Ladyhawke - Paris Is Burning

The eighties sound smacks of escapism, seasonal binge drinking and sexed up scenesters.

‘Paris Is Burning’

, the latest from much hyped New Zealander Pip Brown, AKA Ladyhawke, hits the recent trend for all things Paris right on the head, making this one a bit of a summer anthem in the making. Catchy up beat repetition and dreamy mutterings of ‘kids in the street, drinking wine on the sidewalk’, makes you want some sun already.

The carefree electro popness of this track is very ‘lets-party-in-Europe-for-the-summer’ and it’s hard not to get light headed from the hefty percussion and the whimsical romanticism but then Ladyhawke dirties it back up with breathy vocals begging, ‘I can’t keep up, I’m a wreck but I want it’.

The eighties sound smacks of escapism, seasonal binge drinking and sexed up scenesters, and who doesn’t want a bit of that in their electro pop for gosh sake. Finally, one popular video sharing wesbsite user comment provides the definitive quote; neonfoxincolour says: ‘+700 for a wolf in the video’. Wolves and filthy electro popettes are so 2009.
