Live Review
AlunaGeorge, The Nest, London
With only a fairly small collection of gigs under their belt, this is very impressive.
Incense drifts through the room as Aluna and George casually take their places on the stage along with their bassist and drummer. They open with the seldom-heard ‘Bad Idea’ before heading into ‘Body Music’, a seriously sexy electro track and a great example of their dubstep beat. Aluna too, is seriously sexy – showing us her effortlessly cool moves throughout the whole set. ‘It does feel kind of nesty in here doesn’t it?’ she comments. It does actually - all very dark and although kind of dungeon like, it is pretty cosy.
Next up is ‘We Are Chosen’, another great track and the duo’s debut single that was released earlier in the year. It must be noted that AlunaGeorge have only just started performing with a band, and it works well, live instruments being a nice touch alongside the electronic sound. We’re next treated to their upcoming single ‘You Know You Like It’; with a nice beat and a fantastic old school funk solo from George on keys, this track is a surefire winner and the whole band get properly into it.
Where so many bands often lack stage presence, AlunaGeorge certainly don’t, and with only a fairly small collection of gigs under their belt, this is very impressive. The talented team end their unfortunately short support set with ‘Be Your Boo’, a recently-penned track that is simpler than their previous work and a very fun addition to the set.
AlunaGeorge have proved themselves to be just as good live as they are in the studio and we very much look forward to seeing what they have to offer us in the future.
