Latitude 2014:
Childhood bring sun-drenched debut album to Latitude 2014
London group’s ‘Lacuna’ found the perfect home on the Friday.
With the sun beaming down on Latitude all afternoon, there really isn’t the need for any particular act to brighten things up. Childhood on the other hand immediately exemplified the summertime vibes, turning the heat up a notch over on the Lake Stage with their whimsical psychedelia.
The five-piece pace their mid-afternoon set rather pleasantly, intimately playing new cuts from their forthcoming debut album ‘Lacuna’ that effortlessly heightens the mood of the already incredibly sweaty audience.
It really couldn’t have gone more smoothly for them. Hits such as ‘Blue Velvet’ induce some bloody lovely swaying, and new fan favourite ‘Solemn Skies’ only reiterates that Childhood are the go-to band for swirling summertime nostalgia.
Frontman Ben Romans-Hopcraft is entirely at ease on stage, perhaps succumbing to the intensity of it all. Fair credit to him though - the band’s seriously cool dynamic simply elevates their show tenfold.
With their sun-drenched new album out this August, Childhood would be silly not to grab onto this glorious weather with everything they’ve got. In this heat you’d forgive them for performing lethargically, but the London-based band seized the opportunity by providing not the most exciting performance of the day, but certainty one of the bloody loveliest ones.
