Latitude 2014

Gengahr cement their exciting reputation at Latitude 2014

The Londoners lived up to a hyped-up billing on the Lake Stage.

Gengahr’s brand of breezy pop will surely be haunting those in attendance at the Lake Stage for the rest of the weekend. The four-piece might be fresh off a tour with Wolf Alice, but their performance here is far from stale - it’s very much alive and enthralling.

Kinetic and vibrant, every track has the crowd nodding along approvingly. They’ve learnt a thing or two from those Wolf Alice shows, as live tracks like opener ‘She’s a Witch’ dig deeper, and the band aren’t afraid to let loose with a moment or two of unadulterated jamming.

While their early demos show a clear Unknown Mortal Orchestra influence, all woozy and muggy, the taster of new material offered is louder - more punk, even - and it just goes to show that Gengahr are definitely not a one-trick pony.

Then right on cue, their debut single ‘Fill My Gums With Blood’ kicks in, and there’s even the rare sight of a small Latitude mosh pit. Suddenly it’s clear that in their short time together Gengahr have already cobbled together a serious fan base, and it’s bloody well deserved, too.

You can easily get lost in all the major acts that Latitude has to offer, but on the Lake Stage this afternoon Gengahr’s short but sharp set cemented them as one of the most exciting new bands here. We’ll certainly be hearing a lot from them in the near future.
