Latitude 2015
Gengahr step it up on their return to Latitude 2015
Last year this was one of Gengahr’s first festivals. This year they’ve lived up to pokemon nature and evolved from there.
There’s an unofficial prize on the summer festival circuit that everyone wants to win. At every festival, in every country in the world, there’s always song of choice that wins out every single time, and takes over the entire place by some sort of earworm osmosis. At Latitude, Gengahr are victorious. All across the woods, spilling out across the undergrowth from their iArena set, everyone’s singing ‘She’s A Witch’ at the top of their lungs.
“This is one of the first festivals we played last summer,” says frontman Felix Bushe, “so its very special to us.” Transforming from a fledgling band into a live prospect more solid than reinforced, bulletproof glass, Gengahr have lived up to their Pokemon namesake, and evolved hugely over the last year. He’s always had a stand-out vocal - unique and trembly - but these days Felix Bushe doesn’t just sing, he owns every word. Meanwhile Hugh Schulte - who’s turned up today in a cowboy hat for whatever reason - has developed his own sort of bassy swagger. John Victor could probably bust out a riff on a matchbox and a piece of string that would still make grown adults weep, and Danny Ward’s got an ear for beats crispier than Gary Lineker on a mad one. Separately, as musicians, Gengahr have come a long way. As a complete outfit they’ve given themselves a loft conversion and stepped up 10 notches.
