Jaguar Love, 100 Club, London

The combination of disco sounds and his vocals is immediate as hell.

Expectations are predictably high for Jaguar Love: Johnny Whitney and Cody Votolato of Blood Brothers plus Pretty Girls Make GravesJay Clark could easily equal less than the sum of its parts. Thankfully, it doesn’t.

It might be a barely half-full 100 Club becoming familiar with the material from the trio’s debut long-player, ‘Take Me To The Sea’, for the first time, but that doesn’t faze frontman Whitney. The small stage provides just enough stage for him to strut continually through the band’s blistering set; the combination of disco sounds and his vocals is immediate as hell.

What’s more, set closer ‘My Organ Sounds Like…’ brings with it a singalong on the scale most bands only attempt once headlining Brixton Academy. Although, with songs like these, you get the feeling that might not be too distant a thought.
