POLIÇA play shining unrecorded material at Latitude 2016
Channy Leaneagh dedicates darker songs to “the fear we all feel”.
Rooted in social injustice and inflamed by police brutality and a world in turmoil; POLIÇA’s ‘United Crushers’, released earlier this year, doesn’t hold any punches. Dedicating ‘Wedding’ to the victims of any number of the summer’s devastating news stories along with “the fear we all feel”, they’ve never felt more potent. Gloomy and jarring yet riddled with moments of tranquility, the band’s unusual double-drummed live set up along with the distinct, fervent vocals of Channy Leaneagh make for powerful viewing.
The debuting of an as yet unrecorded, untitled new track brings about a shift. Wasting no time off the back of their recent release, POLIÇA offer a snapshot of future progression as they move towards sunnier shores than they’ve ever dared to venture. Backed by triumphant horns and soft percussion, there’s positivity bordering on euphoria shining through the usually murky waters of POLIÇA’s back catalogue. It offers a glimpse of a band with still so much to give.
