Live Review
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Heaven, London
One of the country’s most exciting artists in the electro-house scene.
With a string of sold out UK shows under his belt, Orlando Higginbottom - AKA Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs - is one of the country’s most exciting artists in the electro-house scene. Having made the transition from an indie to a major label (Polydor) in a ridiculously short space of time, the Oxford-based producer has put together a formidable live show for his legion of fans, who are tonight treated to glitter cannons, orange-wigged dancers and a mountain of red balloons descending from the ceiling. Add into the mix a spectacular lightshow from lighting designer Squib, who has curated shows for the likes of Calvin Harris and The Streets, and you have yourself one heck of a sensory overload.
Fusing a number of genres into one set is no mean feat, but TEED does this seamlessly; from the minimal, lilting tones of ‘Garden’ and ‘Waulking Song’ to electro stomper ‘Household Goods’, via free Soundcloud download ‘Dream On’, we’re taken from pub, to bar to club within an hour and 15 minutes. It’s like an entire night out for the impatient, encapsulated under the arches in Villiers Street. The aforementioned balloons are released during ‘Tapes & Money’, TEED’s next single (released on April 2), with TEED telling everyone to ‘look like you’re having a really good time’, as the video was being shot right there and then. This is Fake DIY is sure this wasn’t too difficult for the crowd.
The set ends with the jungle riddims of ‘Blood Pressure (DUB)’, with the crowd practically throbbing from the shots of bass shooting through the venue. All in all, a playful, bouncy set form one of the UK’s finest producers. If you haven’t already experienced his sound live, clear your diary, grab some flamboyant headgear and get ready for some impressive strobe lighting.
