Wolf Alice celebrate album release with triumphant opening Glastonbury set
‘My Love Is Cool’ is fast becoming a staple, just days after its release.
Following Drenge’s surprise set on William’s Green, Wolf Alice picked up the baton with a last-minute show ahead of their Park Stage appearance tomorrow afternoon (26th June).
Days after the release of ‘My Love Is Cool’, the band’s debut album already seemed to take on the role of a festival staple, every word from newbies ‘Lisbon’ and ‘You’re A Germ’ being sung back with malicious but triumphant intent.
Speaking after their set, bassist Theo Ellis said: “This feels like a really big deal for us. We almost didn’t anticipate what we’d got ourselves in for. But it was overwhelming.”
Drummer Joel Amey added: “Even though it was hard, it was one of my favourite festival sets. It’s gone up in my estimations after talking to everybody.”
Drenge’s Eoin Loveless joined in for closing song ‘Moaning Lisa Smile’, but it wasn’t just a one off. “It’s sick to do it with them,” says Theo. “I think they’re the best live band in the UK.” Ellie says: “I wanna get Eoin to do it again,” while Joel adds that: “They’re one of the few bands we all agree on.”
As for ‘My Love Is Cool”s #1 spot on the midweeks, the band offered nothing but excitable, ‘no comment’ nerves.
William’s Green’s one-two of Drenge and Wolf Alice was a spectacular way to open Glastonbury 2015. It continues tomorrow, when Wolf Alice take to the Park Stage from 5pm.
