Broken Social Scene, Metric, Arcade Fire. There is inarguably something about Canada which spurs the creation of intoxicatingly brilliant musicians.
While Mother Mother isn’t quite ready to join forces with the aforementioned, their own brand of melodramatic pop is undeniably infectious.
The inherently contagious ‘Hayloft’ has all the relentless stamina of a Billy Talent track as it unapologetically rattles around your cochlea. The Shins-inspired guitars of ‘Wrecking Ball’ are the consequential perfect juxtaposition to the chaos, as all of its banjo-led subtly soothes like a lover after a row.
Yet with the bar set so high by their neighbouring predecessors, Mother Mother does have a lot to live up to - something which makes their catchy but forgettable style seem a little lost.
