Ninetails - Blue Bottle Flu

A propulsive display of robust slickness.

Crossing the line between slick post-rock and thumping math-pop, Liverpool four-piece Ninetails (not to be confused with the Pokémon of a similar name) have been causing quite the stir. Their debut EP ‘Ghost Ride The Whip’ sold out in two weeks solely from word of mouth and they have supported the likes of Three Trapped Tigers, Vessels and Dutch Uncles.

‘Blue Bottle Flu’, the band’s latest single then, gorgeously takes off where their EP left off: a propulsive display of robust slickness which justifies the ever growing buzz following this tightly knit unit. Ed Black’s crystalline guitar weaves seamlessly throughout and then, bang, you’re violently thumped with a rippling uppercut courtesy of Phillip Morris’ bass which has been clearly trained under ‘Antidotes’ era Foals. It is not long before everything is brought to a slow burner as Jeff Buckley’s sprawling textures mesh with the warm harmonies of Brighton’s Tall Ships.

“You’ll regret this in the morning time,” they all ominously chant at the end. We’ll have to disagree with them though because there is certainly nothing to regret after hearing this.
