After combining the avant-garde with electro-pop on their single ‘Rooftops’ earlier in the year, Scottish duo BDY_PRTS are gearing up to release their debut album ‘Fly Invisible Hero’ via Aggrocat Records on 24th November. Before its unveiling though, they’ve delivered its lead single.
‘Take It To The Top’ combines the pair’s harmonies with clashing, dramatic percussion and vintage synth elements into a heady, attention-grabbing mix. Speaking of the track, the pair said: “The song is about friendships and learning from our wise mothers, not letting pride and petty differences cloud our judgement or detract from the true meaning of standing by those we love and respect”.
Alongside the track, the pair have also unveiled a very colourful, slightly surreal video directed by Ciaran Lyons. He said of the clip: “My initial inspiration for the video was the 1970 Bauhaus film Das Triadische Ballet. There was something about the idea of ludicrously restrictive costumes, and a kind of absurd take on the aesthetic of femininity that I thought would combine really interestingly with the track.
“My fantasy is that in 20 years’ time, some teenager will stumble across this on an obscure corner of the internet (or whatever we have then), and think: “When and where was this made? And is that really what those people thought a pop-video should look like?!”
BDY_PRTS will also be going on tour in the coming weeks, playing headline shows around Scotland and also playing at London’s Servant Jazz Quarters next month, with tickets on sale now. They’ll also be special guests for Pussy Riot at Oran Mor on 21st November.
