A Dead Forest Index stream ‘Cast Of Lines’ EP in full
Signed to Savages’ Pop Noire label, listen to the New Zealand duo’s eerie new release.

Brothers Adam & Sam Sherry recently picked up the adored attention of Pop Noire, the label co-run by Savages’ Jehnny Beth and Johnny Hostile. Their latest A Dead Forest Index EP, ‘Cast of Lines’, explains why. With the opener ‘Tide Walks’ premiering on DIY last month, what remains is a glistening showcase of wind-swept, eerie productions. Everything’s neatly arranged with a purposeful, bitter aftertaste. Beauty clashes eye-to-eye with pure ugliness. What’s raw and grizzly is also a source of refuge.
DIY’s delighted to be streaming the release in full - below we’ve also got word from both Jehn and Gemma Thompson from Savages about their love of A Dead Forest Index. Plus, read a DIY interview with the band alongside our premiere.
“Listening to A Dead Forest Index is to hear words traversing a landscape, built on repetition and description, which is at once elusive but also so certain,” says Gemma. “The sound is beautiful and captivating, with a very human heaviness and escaping any particular genre. These are songs that are to be listened to over and over, building on themselves each time.”
Festival special! Featuring Wolf Alice, Kasabian, Lykke Li, Marmozets, Genesis Owusu and more.
