Watch Kendrick Lamar receive the California State’s Generational Icon honour

Kendrick Lamar has been honoured by the California State Senate, named as the 35th Senate District’s Generational Icon.

Two months on from the release of his ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ album, he was recognised as an influential figure whose rise from Compton to a global phenomenon is near-unmatched.

State Senator Isadore Hall III gave a speech praising the rapper, following which he was handed an award for his success. Kendrick then gave his own speech, talking about being a role model and how he hopes to give back to the community.
