The output of side projects isn’t always completely fulfilling. Musicians often preoccupy themselves jamming away for fun in bedrooms, out of the spotlight of their real focus. There are exceptions to the rule though. One of these is Menace Beach. This exciting project was born last summer, consisting of a superstar line up of members hailing from Hookworms, You Animals, Sky Larkin, and Komakino.

Each member traded in their bands’ respective sounds for blasts of distortion that helped achieve some of the most exuberant fuzz/grunge tracks of last year. Debut release the ‘Dream Out’ EP was a natural predecessor to Gross Magic’s glam rock crown. Their most recent track ‘Pick Out The Pieces’ wonderfully channels their fuzz rock into something more simple, refined and rewarding.
The constant in Menace Beach’s music is the ability to craft hooks that keep reeling you in. It’s often one or the other when it comes to innovation and appealing to the masses, but this project’s latest track suggests that they are honing in on a perfect balance of the two.
