Do you remember where you were the first time Black Kids’ ‘I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You’? Was it a sense of elation, unparalleled excitement or were you somehow able to foresee the gradual decline in hype and praise? If it’s the latter, please consult me with the result of your crystal ball, with regards to this song, the debut track from London’s Thumpers. Tell me if I’m wrong but I think it could physically explode.
There’s something deliciously celebratory about ‘Sound Of Screams’, as it revels in sweet pop goodness with handclaps and, well, a serious amount of “thumping” backing up a distinctly joyous melody. I hate the word infectious being used to describe music. It implies that a song has physically ingrained a germ within your delicate body and that sooner or later, you’ll be bed-ridden with sickness. That’s not what ‘Sound Of Screams’ would do to you. Rather, it’s capable of lifting you up from any slumber and giving you a false sense of reality, that everything in the world is good for at least 3 minutes and 30 seconds. You can’t fault that.
