Thumpers released their latest album ‘Whipped & Glazed’ last week, so what better way to celebrate its first seven days in the world than with a video for one of its (many) highlights, ‘99’?
Contrary to what you might be expecting, it’s not set in an ice cream parlour, mind. Instead, it follows a pretty vain bloke (played by comedian Jon Pointing) as he goes through his morning routine, heads to boxing and wears a snazzy suit around town. He pops to the grocer’s and meets a woman (Figs in Wigs’ Sarah Moore) and gets a little bit suggestive with the veg. One thing leads to another and, although they do end up in bed together, it all ends in disaster. It’s a bit gross really…
The band’s Marcus Pepperell said of the video: “99’s lyrics are about an obsessive jealousy (in an ice cream parlour) and I think the video almost imagines the front-end of that romance, this kind of gross, self-obsessed first date. It’s a big shift from videos we’ve done before, but working with the director Glyn and being able to watch two great comedians totally in their element was such a joy”.
We recently caught up with Thumpers to talk about their new album. Catch up right here.
