Listen: Cloud Boat Share New Free Download, ‘Carmine’

London duo Cloud Boat are wasting no time in returning from their R&S Records debut, 2013’s ‘Book of Hours’.

With a second album promised for summer 2014, the pair of Sam Ricketts and Tom Clarke have shared new material with ‘Carmine’, which arrives as a free download.

If material on the debut was rooted in sombre balladry, built next to church spires, this is a more adventurous work that recruits steel pans and eerie instrumentation. Melancholic to the bone - standout lyric: ‘My friend, you’re struggling’ - the song’s dressed up in fancy new attire. Take everything you associated with Cloud Boat before now and push it to one side.
