It’s hard to believe that the creators of Aquilo’s electronic pop sound formerly fronted respective, rival guitar bands, but this is precisely what neighbours Tom Higham and Ben Fletcher did. Meanwhile Lucas Button was a bedroom producer that lacked steady output, but after meeting the two rivals that had settled their differences and adding Fin Kay Lavelle, he had unearthed a gem he could make shimmer. It already sounds like something out of a ‘beginning-of-the-band’ documentary, right?

Aquilo only have one track to their name, but it’s a dazzling pop number that we imagine took an age to perfect. The production is slick and glossy, yet the band manages to add misty layers to the track, which make it more revitalised and intriguing. Over the course of the track all the individual elements merge to create a rich and dense offering abundant with harmonies and expertly delivered vocals. Aquilo are the gem that all of its members must have dreamt of, and together they are radiantly glowing.
