The foggy synth backdrops, the meaningless gastronomy-based lyrics (“mulled wine tastes better with sugar”), the tap-tap percussion style - this is the sound of a rejuvinated ‘Feels’-era Animal Collective. We saw a similar rebirth in the form of Braids’ debut album ‘Native Speaker’, but here, from everything to artwork, band photos, right down to the core of the sound, Beaty Heart are a natural sonic evolution from the Baltimore trio.
Their ideas remain original. In a special edition package of early recordings, the London band offered out multicoloured, hand-printed t-shirts, alongside hand drawn Rizla packets. Every recording of theirs carries a similar to desire to offer up something fresh-tasting.
Watch the suitably trippy video for ‘We’re All Friends Here’.
