Festivals Black Honey, Eagulls, Milk Teeth & more to take over DIY x The Great Escape

We’ve been given the keys to Horatio’s, on the Palace Pier. Expect mayhem. Here’s a guide to all the acts getting involved.

In just over a month, Brighton’s buzziest of festivals, The Great Escape, kicks off its showcase of the best new music.

This year, DIY is taking over Horatio’s, situated right in the middle of the Palace Pier. We’re bringing all our favourite bands - some brand new, others more established - along for the ride.

Leeds thrashers Eagulls are getting involved. Brighton’s very own Black Honey are there too. And LA’s most exciting new band in bloody ages, Partybaby, are playing their first UK show just for us.

That’s not all. Over at the Corn Exchange, Mystery Jets headline a Corn Exchange set for DIY on Saturday 21st May. They’re joined by the almighty The Big Moon and Vitamin. Blimey.

Three days of (hopefully) sun-soaked, fish & chips-filled chaos beckons. Below, find a guide to every band playing DIY’s Great Escape stage at Horatio’s.

Bands start around 7pm each night - full stage times will be announced soon.

If for some reason you don’t fancy spending your entire weekend on the pier, elsewhere at the fest you’ll find Shura, Songhoy Blues and Stormzy. See the full line-up here.

Trudy

Doting, hopeless romantics penning rough-edged songs about love. Trudy are one of a kind.

Declan McKenna

Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent winner from last year is fast making good on his early promise. ‘Brazil’ remains a marker for his intelligent, adolescent headrush pop.

Beach Baby

We’re on the beach, baby. So why not bring Beach Baby along for the ride? The London group’s skittering pop skids a tightrope between ‘80s hallmarks and the wooziness of Mac DeMarco.

Bleached

California’s Bleached specialise in fuzz-drenched rock ’n’ roll - latest album ‘Welcome the Worms’ is a huge statement of intent.

Cullen Omori

The former Smith Westerns frontman (pictured, top) released his solo debut ‘New Misery’ via Sub Pop this year. The Chicago star is making a big case to see his name in lights.

LCMDF

A Helsinki-duo specialising in bonkers electro pop, sisters Emma & Mia Kemppainen open day two.

GIRLI

No bullshit, no prisoners. GIRLI’s opinion-splitting pop is insane on record, even more magnifying live.

Drones Club

They gatecrash fashion shows and they look more like an army than a band, on stage. Drones Club’s KLF-nodding madness is going places.

Black Honey

One of the best new bands in the country, hands down. Black Honey are fast becoming the big-thinking, cinematic giants they always dreamt of being.

Eagulls

These guys don’t require a big introduction. Day two’s headliners (pictured, above) have one of the year’s best records, ‘Ullages’, waiting down the wings. They also happen to be an incredible live act, without fail.

Love Ssega

This London talent makes emotion-flipping, cowbell-backed pop, equally suited for house parties and break-ups.

Partybaby

We’re never going to shut up about Partybaby, an all-thrills new band making life-affirming punk to rival FIDLAR.

Jodie Abacus

Slick-as-it-gets, Jodie Abacus pens gorgeous, genre-splitting songs that’ve recently won Tobias Jesso Jr.’s approval.

Day Wave

Jackson Phillips won’t feel far from home on Brighton beach. His wave-surfing, California-stamped music is destined for the coast.

Milk Teeth

Hot on the tail of their brilliant ‘Vile Child’ debut, Milk Teeth are bringing the most frenzied closing set imaginable to our Great Escape showcase.

Excited? Good. Get tickets for The Great Escape here.
