Sponsored content DIY & Musosoup’s Stand Out Tracks: Vagabonds, JW Paris, ELMA & more
We’ve teamed up with music promotion platform Musosoup to highlight some of their best recent releases.
It’s no secret that finding a favourite new artist can end up being a particularly joyful moment in life. Whether it’s via seeing them open up at a local show, or through scouring playlists online, there are loads of different ways to unearth musical gems right now, but sometimes it’s handy to have an extra lil push in the right direction.
So, in order to celebrate the joy of discovering new music (while making it that little bit easier, and less time-consuming), we’ve teamed up with music promotion platform Musosoup, whose mission statement is to help shine a light on some of the lesser known acts in new music, in a more affordable and clear-cut manner for everyone involved.
Back in May, we shared our first list of picks from the platform before giving a refresher back in summer; now - as tip season fast approaches and new music is very much on everyone’s radar! - we’re going through some of their more recent releases which have piqued our interest. Check them out now by scrolling on.
Vagabonds — Going Somewhere
Described by the outfit’s Luke S Dean as “one minute of haunting guilt and overwhelming panic”, the latest track to come from Michigan’s Vagabonds is a dark, foreboding offering that feels much mightier than its 1 minute 18 runtime would suggest. Jagged and gnarled, ‘Going Somewhere?’ sees Dean move away from warmer, Explosions in the Sky-esque epicness of his 2023 full-length ‘The Pasture & The Willow’, into a more scuzzy, claustrophobic space.
ELMA — Supernatural
Sweden has always been fertile ground when it comes to pop music — from ABBA to Robyn, Lykki Li to Zara Larsson, their list of stars is epic — so it’s perhaps little surprise that Stockholm’s ELMA is throwing her hat into the musical ring too. Channelling a more laid-back, soulful groove, ‘Supernatural’ is a technicolour delight of a track, that lifts the spirits in the midst of the dark midwinter.
JW PARIS - Anything
Listening to the first few seconds of their latest offering ‘Anything’, it doesn’t take long to pinpoint some of the artists who’ve helped influence JW PARIS along the way. Channelling the buoyant energy of Britpop’s greats (via some proper pints-aloft ‘woo’s in the song’s first moments), this upbeat, in-your-face track packs in nostalgia and freshness in equal measure.
AUNCE — Come Back
It’s no secret that electronic music can bear the power to move listeners in entirely unexpected and poignant ways, and that couldn’t be more true on ‘Come Back’, this latest release from London-based, New Zealand-born producer AUNCE. A melding pot of creeping synths, serene vocals and powerful beats, there’s something entirely cathartic about the track’s twisting and turning harmonies, which make for a truly powerful listen.
Samy Sharif - Snuff The Pilot Light
Not many artists manage to release three albums across a decade, let alone sharing a handful of full-lengths within just one year; then again, Samy Sharif clearly isn’t just another regular artist. Part of his hugely ambitious ‘Three Houses’ trilogy — which boasts ‘House of Failure’, ‘House of Fix’, and ‘House of Bliss’ — his most recent offering ‘Snuff The Pilot Light’ showcases the Egyptian-Irish artist’s knack for pairing poignant poetry with engaging beats and soaring choruses.
