FIANCÉ have been on the fringes of something special for a while now. They first emerged around this time last year with ‘Division’ and ‘For Now’, two songs that clashed grand, psych-doused atmospherics with an oddly suitable Yorkshire twang. There’s probably not a speck of Alex Turner in Andrew Fusca’s vocals, but somehow this dynamic voice tangles itself up into all kinds of crazed positions, especially on new song ‘Era’. There’s a distant, abstract backdrop to the song that recalls DIIV’s ‘Sometime’, with sedated dream-pop being given a different slant to the traditional beach-tastic escapist route.

‘Era’ has a heart too, and that’s probably the main reason why FIANCÉ stand out. Fusca - together with Brian Bruce, Jeff Marvel and Tyler Yoder - helps forge a foggy, glazed pop song out of what, on the outside, could be considered complete heartbreak.

FIANCÉ release their debut EP later this year.
