THE GIG
Mikky Ekko supports Jessie Ware - London, Somerset House


He’s already been in the studio presence of Rihanna, so this’ll likely not daunt him, but Mikky Ekko still lands a big deal event supporting Jessie Ware at London’s Somerset House. For the headliner it’s a triumphant homecoming, and for the support act he’ll be more than a source of intrigue.

THE SONG
FIANCÉ - Summer Tunnels


Delaware’s FIANCÉ are fast developing their staple sound. ‘For Now’ was a sleepy, expansive giant, but latest ‘Summer Travels’, while still getting by on glassy vocals and heavenly guitar-work, is of a different kind. It’s actually the closest an American band have come to sounding like Arctic Monkeys, almost replicating Alex Turner’s Sheffield twang (which comes closer to resembling a US resident’s by the day) to a T.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Paula - Black Acura


David Carriere of TOPS rep used to work on a project called Paula. An album he produced pre-TOPS just gained release Stateside via Ethereal Sequence. But it’d do a good job of finding its way over to the UK for a release proper. We’re a sucker for this kind of disciplined synth-pop, heady but restrained in equal measure.
