Hello and welcome to DIY’s new introducing feature, Get To Know… With two new acts a week, the feature pretty much does what it says on the tin: getting you a little bit closer to the buzziest new acts that have been catching our eye as of late, and working out what makes them tick.

Recently, we caught up with country-tinged singer-songwriter Jade Bird, got to know new Dirty Hit signing No Rome and had a chat with Aussie psychsters Psychedelic Porn Crumpets.

Next up, we get to know Peluché. Pioneering a genre called ‘trip jam’ - part of an emerging scene that melds together Latin, funk, psychedelia, soul and hip-hop - the London-based trio are all self-taught musicians and make their music in a self-built studio in a garden shed.

Due to release their debut album on 28th September via One Little Indian, they’ve just released latest single ‘Figure Me Out’, a slinky, slow-building track that makes use of an array of intertwining rhythms.

Describe your music to us in the form of a Tinder bio.

Sensual and evocative, but if you want to know more you’ll have to come and enjoy the live experience.

What’s your earliest musical memory?

Jamming with my cousin on paint tins and shoe boxes with elastic bands. Also, listening to my dad jam with his mates ‘til the early hours.

Who were some artists that inspired you when you were just starting out (and why)?

Tom Tom Club - covering ‘Genius Of Love’ for NYE was fun. Fela Kuti and other old Afrobeat legends, and nice Latin American grooves also bring something great out in us. Not forgetting our favourite 90’s club classics!

You’re based in London - how do you feel the scene is doing at the moment? Are there other artists breaking through at the same time that you take inspiration from?

It’s still ageist and pretty sexist. But it’s doing better and we don’t get pigeon-holed into the ‘girl band’ aesthetic half as much as we used to. We really like Comet is Coming, Sons and Kemet and Moses Boyd.

Who would be your dream collaborator?

Herbie Hancock! And the ghost of David Bowie.

Musically or otherwise, what are you most looking forward to in 2018?

We are looking forward to our precious album being released! And after that eating Christmas dinner! And playing some nice shows in-between.

If people could take away one thing from your music, what would it be?

For people to just feel happy after listening to us. I would hope listening to our music gives people a little introspective space to let go of any troubles and let themselves be happy.
