Latitude 2015 Honne eye up Latitude lake’s gondolas: “okay, have to go on one of those!”
The slinky neo-pop duo chat to DIY ahead of their debut Latitude appearance, a year on from that enormous debut track.
With Honne setting down at Latitude almost exactly a year since the release of their debut track ‘Warm On A Cold Night’, this weekend’s festival feels like something of a birthday party for the soulful pop duo. In a week that’s seen their Soundcloud plays on similarly slinky track ‘The Night’ hit over two million, there’s plenty to celebrate.
“Before we put it out I was like ‘I’ll be really happy if we get 20,000 plays’,” explains Andy, “I mean, two million is just ridiculous…” His partner in crime James, however, had loftier goals: “I was like ‘you’re so pessimistic, I hope it gets more!’” he laughs.
While they might be reaching those higher climes, there’s not much time to stuff down the cake and let off the party poppers, though, with the duo having to jet off soon after their performance later today. ““It’s a real shame
because I’ve always wanted to come,” Andy laments. ”The last couple of years I’ve looked at the line-ups and gone ‘ooh, that looks really great!’ So it’s a shame we can’t stay for longer.”
“I don’t really know much about it, but from first glimpse it looks really nice,” he continues, before a passing gondola on Latitude’s famous lake pulls his attention: “okay, have to go on one of those!”
With recording sessions for their debut album – “which is gonna be next year” – seeing the duo take a gospel choir under their wing, it looks like this duo-turned-multi-member live band might continue to expand long into the future. As for whether they might bring that choir up on stage with them in the future, the pair “would love to,” though “not just yet,” smiles James, “we’ll save it for a special moment…”
