In-Depth Inner Visions: A comprehensive guide to Grimes

Album number four isn’t imminent quite yet, but get all excited for the clock to strike Grime-Time with this in-depth guide.

Since ‘Visions’ came out and took 2012 by storm, the world has been missing something; namely a new Grimes album. DIY has been flooded with unverified but incredibly harrowing reports of people unable to slumber at night because their sleep is too turbulent; filled with lucid, restless dreams in which they scour imaginary Soundcloud waves for new material.

Claire Boucher herself hasn’t exactly been doing much to pacify the growing excitement. Earlier this year Grimes came fairly close to breaking the internet when she seemed to blurt out an album release date on twitter back in January. The grapevine, ripe with new fuel, just carried on growing as Grimes confirmed that, yes, in between visiting Game of Thrones exhibitions in her new Adidas sandals, she was spending an awful lot of time in the studio. Pictures of new home recording equipment made their way online, too, and then of course, there was an almighty new track named ‘Go’, released because, as Boucher puts it in her press release, “it’s our summer jam so we figured we should put it out cuz I am very bored of waiting to finish my album b4 releasing new music.”

Despite vaguely hinting towards a September 9th release date at the beginning of the year, Grimes has since declared that her new album, as it stood a few months ago “sucked”. Speaking to The New York Times earlier this month, Boucher confirmed that she “threw it out and started again.” Two days after that article was published, Grimes told Radio One’s Annie Mac that album number four is half done. “I’m thinking about making a double album or something,” she added, “half way crazy experimental, half way pop, because I feel like everyone is like, ‘do this, do this’, and I kind of want to do both. I’m trying to work out how to put them together.”

Whether stalled by pop-related diversions, half done, or completely binned, it looks like we’re just going to have to be patient and wait for the follow-up to ‘Visions’. It might’ve been the album that catapulted Claire Boucher into the electronic A-list, but in the meantime, there’s plenty more to delve into. From old side projects to drawings and mythical house boat trips, here is our guide to all things Grimes to keep you occupied until album number four.
