Furthering Swim Deep and co.’s B-town call to arms, JAWS are comparable to their peers, but only in the sense that they’re a little detached from the pop ambitions of their mates from Birmingham. Perhaps a major label awaits, but you sense the band would be quite content sporting their tropical indie pop minus a gold-dusted cashflow.

That’s not to say ‘Toucan Surf’ and ‘Donut’ don’t bask in anthemic territory. These are singalong anthems made for slackers more concerned with finding the bacci behind the sofa than revelling in the next big thing. More hands to the hips than hands in the air, the dreamy synth quality of the band’s early songs is coupled with a semi-romantic yearning to rejoice in being oh-so-nonchalant.
