You’ll have likely noticed the image above, showing one-half of London duo Post Louis, vocalist Stephanie, with a crumpled up piece-of-paper for a face. It’s a neat, imaginative visual portrait of a band whose sound ties into this semi-recycled state, where minute, almost escaping details make up the bulk of their work.
Two songs unveiled to date reveal a project fascinated in the beauty of a fleeting millisecond, a brief glimpse. Robbie Stern, who used to be a member of ridiculously young but ultimately riddled London band Cajun Dance Party, has various calling points. The sedated 90s rock pulse of a song like ‘This Could Be A Bridge’ could be compared to fellow CDP alumni Yuck, but for the most part Stern and Stephanie revel in the subtleties of their songs. A collapsing, cinematic mid-section in debut song ‘Oldsmobile’ sums them up best. Vocal loops blush in the company of loose, barely-there percussion parts, contributing to a sleepy, majestic build.
It should be far too clever for its own good, this, but instead you’re left trying to gather up the scattered pieces, the crumpled pieces of paper, and so on and so forth.
