Just over a month ago Superfood were untraceable. With no Facebook page, demos or Youtube videos and only a fleeting glimpse at DIY’s ‘Hello 2013’ showcase, the latest Birmingham bunch were definitely not letting their mask slip. The only detectable fragment of their existence was their almost mythical live shows where the band flourished. While they might not have been that easy to uncover, Superfood were definitely creating waves, albeit ones spread through hushed word-of-mouth conversations, an online chinese whispers. Word was getting out about their shows with comparisons to Pavement and early Blur.
Fast forward and the four-piece finally unveiled their debut track last month. Their debut track is bursting with character and youthful energy. Excitable, youthful vocals and surging guitars display a band already at the top of their game, with confidence to boot.
It’d be easy to lump Superfood in with the current surge of Birmingham bands such as Peace, Swim Deep and Jaws but something about these guys elevates them above mere scenes.
Superfood play the DIY stage at this year’s Great Escape Festival, Brighton.
