The Beautiful Game: Gareth ‘Snoz’ Lawrence, The Blackout - Liverpool FC

Features The Beautiful Game: Gareth ‘Snoz’ Lawrence, The Blackout - Liverpool FC

If you’re anything like DIY, you’ll have spent last week finely tuning your Fantasy Football team ready for the new season. Now, with all the major English and Scottish leagues underway, it’s time to take a balanced look at just what’s in store. We’ve asked a bunch of bands, artists and music industry types to let us know exactly what they expect from their team in 2011/2012. Anyone for a Bovril?

Drummer with The Blackout and Liverpool fan, it’s entirely expected that Gareth ‘Snoz’ Lawrence would say it’s his team’s year. And he doesn’t disappoint.

Being a Liverpool FC fan, EVERY year, there are expectations of some sort of silverware. After all, it always feels like it’s going to be our year. I’ve been saying that to myself for the last 21 years!

I am very happy with the signings King Kenny has made since he took over in January, especially this summer. He seems to have gone for Premiership experience rather than the massive big name buy from abroad.

Sure, he’s spent a lot of money on some lesser experienced players; £16 million for Jordan Henderson being the prime one, but buying players from another Premier League team is always going to be more expensive as it’s always been the case.

What I’m more than happy with though, is the fact that with Henderson, Downing, Adam and Enrique, there is Premier League experience and quality with out the need for bedding in and learning about the League!

With those signings, and what we already have, I believe we have enough quality, especially with Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez as well as Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher, to push for at least a Champions League place, but maybe not quite challenge for the title.

When Kenny took over in January, you could see the belief in the players grow week by week as they were finally being allowed to play the game they always wanted to, and the results came with that. As long as we can keep the morale high, and confidence flowing through the team, I reckon the mighty Liverpool FC will be a challenge for anyone this season. Apart from maybe Norwich or Swansea.
