New music guide The Neu Bulletin (10th February 2015)

DIY’s daily new music tips, featuring St. Tropez and Sean Olson.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to.Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
St. Tropez

London, The Old Blue Last (supporting Misty Miller)

Amsterdam-bred, hell-raising newcomers St. Tropez have one EP to their name and very few live dates under their belt. Information’s a little slim too - they claim to be a canal-residing force, who happened to record their first work with Spring King’s Tarek Musa. There’s one certainty: If they can pull it off live, they’ll be one of the most exciting new acts around. Tonight they support Misty Miller at a free show.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Sean Olsen - Lost Songs

“I should have loved a Thunderbird instead,” New York’s Sean Olson sings, all while he pulls the listener by puppet strings. Box-ticking in the sense that his stripped-back, lo-fi sound verges on the brink of being overly-twee without outstaying its welcome, Olson’s trick is in how he backs sentiment with a slowly-evolving wall of noise. It’s a gorgeous introduction.
