THE GIG
Atlas, The Soft - Shacklewell Arms, London

Thursday again offers a split choice to gig-goers in the capital. Two immersive electronic acts will be bopping heads over laptops amongst pretty backdrops as The Soft and Atlas combine in London’s Shacklewell Arms. The former have just unveiled their finest work to date, the terrific ‘Mori’.

Crushed Beaks, Torches, Ides - London Bull & Gate

For those planning on clogging their ears up with joyous fuzz, the Bull & Gate’s show will be preferable. Crushed Beaks headline, with excitable dark-pop experts Torches (pictured, above) and the fast-rising Ides joining forces. Your ears will ring and you won’t be able to wipe that smile off your face.

THE SONG
Typesun - The PL



“Keep it on the downlow”, Typesun demands, after a short burst of brass simmers out to make way for a slowly shifting, looped backdrop. Were it not for the Bristol songwriter’s obvious talent, it’d be easy to keep schtum about his music. It’s far from showy; like a soul singer that doesn’t care for crowds. Except, it’s different, it’s exciting and so here we are, writing about it and hoping that as many people as possible get into it. Sorry, Typesun. Don’t blame the messenger.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Desert - Desert



Back in November we had a rendez-vous with Desert, a Barcelona musician who sent bleary-eyed bloggers into a right old fuss when performing under her previous moniker, Granit. Debut track ‘Camins’ has been followed up by quite the statement: For one thing, it’s a self-titled track. Remember when Razorlight named their second album after themselves? It didn’t go so well. But this second track from the enigmatic Cristina is quite the step-up. It’s like being thrown into a whirlpool of snappy synths and obtuse pop melodies. Unconventional, but deeply satisfying. Desert might be playing the arrogance card, but this self-titled track is a keeper.
