New music guide The Neu Bulletin (15th June 2015)

DIY’s new music tips, featuring Black Honey, PUMA ROSA and Joey Nebulous.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Black Honey (w/ Loom and Prom)

London, Barfly

No two Black Honey shows are the same. Doesn’t matter if they’re headlining, supporting or lodged in the middle of a festival bill. The Brighton band thrive on unpredictability, whether that’s evil-eye’ing the crowd, throwing fits at broken amps or delivering tightly-wound rock free of any faults. Tonight they join Loom and Prom on a scuzzy triple-bill at Camden’s Barfly haunt.

THE BIG NEU THING:
PUMA ROSA

A few months to the good and London band PUMA ROSA’s (formerly ADA) early demos give off a greater, more emphatic quality as the years rolls by. An explorative new wave energy defines ‘Red’ (above), like Berlin’s Ballet School with a similarly glossy quality. A bright, energetic band with boundless potential, the demand’s there for them to do something bigger.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Joey Nebulous - date night

Brutally short, Joey Nebulous’ ‘date night’ is a blink-and-you-missed-it glimpse of a very exciting new songwriter. The Chicago-based, bedroom-rooted artist sings in hopeful falsetto, with clipped guitar notes gently circuiting the scene. In the space of just over 70 seconds, he does what 8-minute epics can’t get close to, giving off intimacy in simple, fleeting gorgeousness.
