THE GIG
Merchandise w/ Girls Names - London, 100 Club

Florida’s Merchandise take to a sold out show in London before heading down to Brighton as one of the must-see acts of this year’s Great Escape Fest. Their ‘Totale Nite’ LP is one of many in the band’s locker, but they’re still being treated with relative curiosity from new listeners. The real deal or just a bunch of talented sods who sound like The Smiths? Time to find out.

THE SONG
Heathers - Colossi of Memnon
Colossi of Memnon by Heathers

Back in March we raved about just how ruddy excellent the jangly indie pop of Heathers’ track ‘Teenage Clothes’ was. Since then the LA three-piece have kept us waiting, left to imagine how future songs might sound and wonder whether ‘Teenage Clothes’ was a one-off. Turns out it wasn’t. ‘Colossi of Memnon’ is a bit of a departure from their previous sound - more expansive sitting at over seven minutes in length and considerably slower paced (at least to start with). Bleedin’ good. [Jake May]

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Superfood - TV (demo)

This is the one that stood out when Superfood played their debut London show for us at the Old Blue Last in January. ‘I can never sleep without the TV on’ is a strange thing to be yelping in unison with 10,000 others in a muddy field, but this second track from the Birmingham group belongs in festivals, more so than any other song we’ve heard this year from a new band.
