Merchandise embrace Greek tragedy in the video for ‘Right Back To The Start’
They’ve also rescheduled their European tour dates from last year.
Merchandise have given a classical Greek tragedy a very modern twist in their new video for ‘Right Back To The Start’.
It’s once again been directed by frontman Carson Cox, who filmed the new clip over a weekend in Washington DC. Influenced by Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Vertigo’ and the works of screenwriter Rod Serling (the man behind ‘The Twilight Zone’, cue music), Carson takes the idea of The Spider, or three women who all bear a striking resemblance, as its central theme.
As Carson says himself: “The Spider (the three different women who all bear striking resemblance) is the magnetic antagonist to the Tragic Protagonist (the man following the Spider), who can’t understand what’s going on, following the Spider over and over. The narrator (Lindsey Jordan) sings along, as a Greek chorus would. The faces may change but the story stays the same.” So, there’s a bit of stalking, and quite a lot of being haunted by spider imagery as our protagonist follows the women around the city.
Merchandise have also rescheduled their European tour dates, which last year were cut short after Carson sustained a fractured jaw at a gig in Leeds. The rescheduled gigs take place across March and April and includes a stop off at London’s Oslo on 4th April.
