THE GIG
Temples, Telegram - London, Electric Ballroom
Nodding to nostalgia in their own respective way, psych brigadiers Temples are joined by newly crowned ‘best dressed new band in Britain’ Telegram for a double-blow of riotous rock ‘n roll, coming from two very distinct corners.
THE BIG NEU THING
Johnny Dillinger
Pretty Much by Johnny Dillinger
Good hip-hop doesn’t have to rely on showy samples, but Johnny Dillinger makes a convincing argument when he begins his debut ‘Pretty Much’ mixtape with a Youth Lagoon track. Slowed down and spun out, Trevor Powers’ vocals are a way in, an open door to a supremely gifted new talent from Washington.
What follows after the ‘Raspberry Cane’ sample is controlled chaos. Presuming this isn’t this real name and that he’s not somehow related to a mastermind bank robber, Johnny persists on with well-versed lines, delivered with sarcasm, wit and the kind of fresh-faced wonder that confirms this is the first release of many for a special new voice.
