THE GIG
Mind Enterprises - London, The Waiting Room (FREE)

Andrea Tirone aka Mind Enterprises releases his ‘My Girl’ EP this week on Because Music. It’s a surprisingly heartfelt turn from a producer previously renowned for sharp, excitable beat-pop. Not that any of the former’s been filtered out, not least in his live show which is a slick, confident sample-fest each time round. The Waiting Room hosts this free show.

THE SONG
Hang Tight - Dog Time
EP by Hang Tight

A guy who likes shooting hoops, quotes Superman characters and can’t sing particularly well: Hang Tight’s debut EP is a brilliantly un-glossy insight into the wild mind of a bedroom producer. Hip-hop’s its game, but there’s more to it than that, and it couldn’t adhere to conventions of the genre if it tried. Lead track ‘Dog Time’ sways from smart verses to a shakily sung chorus, and it all comes together perfectly.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Salt Cathedral - Move Along

The multi-instrumentative grace of Brooklyn’s Salt Cathedral is a thing of wonder. Like all your arty friends trying to impress at once with their various talents, it could come off as overblown, unrestrained, their style. But there’s something in ‘Move Along’ that’s smart and restrained. All hell could break loose, ideas could be thrown into a melting pot quicker than they could surface. But they’re kept in line, around and within. Supremely clever.
