THE GIG
Beaty Heart - London, Koko
With a debut album just around the corner, tropical gazers Beaty Heart are sensibly saving their first work for the heart of the summer. Charming, amped up alt-pop is their game, with comparisons to Animal Collective showing no signs of stopping.
THE BIG NEU THING
A. G. Cook - Keri Baby feat. Hannah Diamond
Futuristic, meta label PC Music are responsible for some of the most divisive productions in recent months, the extreme end of the spectrum being ‘Pink and Blue’ by Hannah Diamond. Like a sweet tooth turning luminous, it stands out as the most overdone example of cutesy pop in 2013. This new A. G. Cook track, in which Hannah Diamond features, takes a similar routine, coming off like a toy doll advert wedged between CITV programmes. It’s like the first sip of Coca Cola; too sweet, almost rotten, but then it’s onto the next one, the beginning of an addiction. Insane.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Bleeding Heart Pigeons - Visiting Myself In Hospital
The concept behind Limerick group Bleeding Heart Pigeons’ ‘Visiting Myself In Hospital’ is pretty grim, and it takes some pretty fearless musicians to take it on on their opening gambit. Reciting the headspace of someone capable of being involved in the Columbine School shooting, the song’s a daring, dark peering into what on the outside seems completely inhumane. The band have coupled it with a surreal video, complete with those all important lyrics; the crux of the song.
Bleeding Heart Pigeons’ debut EP is out now. Stream on DIY.
