THE GIG
Thumpers support Chvrches - London, Shepherds Bush Empire

Pop rejoicists combine in one of the country’s hottest tickets. Thumpers are sound of 2014 shoe-ins, surely, especially after being signed Stateside to Sub Pop. They support DIY favourites Chvrches.

THE SONG
IBV - No Ambition
The violence of my land by IBV

Stockholm one-man-band IBV, originally I’ve Become Vapour, is the project of Olle Strandberg, the younger brother of Holograms drummer Anton Strandberg. With IBV Strandberg combines two seemingly opposite directions in Scandinavian music - the darker post-punk influenced acts like, yes, Holograms and Lust for Youth with the electronic pop of the Sincerely Yours label - and guess what, it works marvellously. IBV’s latest EP ‘The Violence of My Land’ is available as a free download on his Bandcamp page and ‘No Ambition’ is our choice pick from it; shimmering post-punk synths and auto-tuned R&B melt together into a sound that’s distinctly Strandberg’s own. [Johan Alm]

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
France Camp - Ghost Town

Post-leaving Howler, France Camp’s evidently spent a good chunk of timing watching old-school horror movies in a convertible car with the sunroof down. Something like that. New track ‘Ghost Town’ is a nostalgia rinsed, brattish young thing, kicking and screaming its way to heady success. A self-titled debut album is out on 31st October via Forged Artefacts. Don’t be the one to miss it.
