Mikky Ekko previews debut album with new single ‘Time’

Title-track previews an LP out next January.

Champion of heartbreaking ballads, Mikky Ekko, has announced plans to release his debut album ‘Time’ in the States next January.

The Nashville artist first rose to prominence two years back with ‘Stay’, a massive co-written hit for Rihanna. Since then, he’s been hard at work in the studio for his first full-length, due 20th January.

A title-track is streaming now, placing Ekko’s balladry into simple, striking acoustic territory.

‘Time’ (the album) is set to feature Dave Sitek, Benny Blanco and Clams Casino in production roles, as well as Dennis Herring, Stargate, Ryan Tedder and Jeff Bhasker.

Speaking to Billboard about his past couple of years, Mikky said: “From the label, people on Rihanna’s side. I think we speculated a little bit about going out on the tour with Rih, and I ultimately felt like the songs weren’t there. And I said I’m not gonna go out to promote an album that could be better. And I know the sort of the endless tweaking that can happen, but I feel like we took the time to put together a really, really strong album full of songs that at least for me represents exactly where I am.
