New music guide The Neu Bulletin (19th November 2014)

DIY’s daily new music delivery, featuring Public Access TV, The Isabelles and RAT BOY.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Public Access TV, Bloody Knees support Circa Waves - London, Heaven

Topping off a tour that could be the making of them, tonight Liverpool’s Circa Waves play their biggest headline show to date at London Heaven. All eyes on their ascent, making similarly big inroads is New Yorkers Public Access TV and rowdy bunch Bloody Knees, both of which have their hearts set on similarly huge 2015’s.

THE BIG NEU THING:
RAT BOY

The initial comparisons are obvious. Essex kid RAT BOY comes racing in with the same attitude and urban motifs as Jamie T or, more recently, Only Real - spitting rude lines over harsh, lo-fi guitar lines. On his debut mixtape, six tracks are packed together, reeking of potential. This isn’t some cheap ‘Stella’ homage, either. Trends are bucked, convention torn a new one. It might take time for RAT BOY to forge his own path, but especially on third track ‘Sportswear’, he looks capable of doing so in an instant.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
The Isabelles - She’s In Pictures

There’s a raw, full-venom’ed flavour to ‘She’s In Pictures’, a guitar-led frenzy of a track by Falmouth band The Isabelles. Consisting of members from Hazards and Pastel Colours, their track features on a new compilation via Wax Music, run by DIY’s own Ross Jones. Steeped in classic influences but racing for the future, The Isabelles find a risky but beautifully wild balance.
