New music guide The Neu Bulletin (1st December 2014)
DIY’s daily new music guide, featuring Bad Breeding, Sievehead and Oh Wonder.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG:
Bad Breeding support Cloud Nothings - London, Electric Ballroom
Stevenage punks Bad Breeding are a must-see support for Cloud Nothings’ biggest ever London headline show. Dylan Baldi and co. won’t leave Camden without sending it into a seething mess, but don’t expect these newcomers to fall short in that regard either. This Thursday, they play The Stillery with Yak and Warm Brains.
THE BIG NEU THING:
Oh Wonder - All We Do
Ok, so they’ve been forced to change their name while rising to prominence, but when London duo Oh Wonder (formerly Wonder Wonder) decided to put out one new track a month until they had an album’s worth, they probably didn’t imagine things to be going this well. ‘All We Do’ arrives to meet expectation head-on, and it’s far and away the pair’s best song to date, nestling in darkness and claiming “all we do is play it safe” - this is anything but a standard move.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Sievehead
Spitting venom with a hiss and a snarl, Sheffield punks Sievehead arrive in vicious form. Recommended by Hookworms’ MJ, file these guys next to Eagulls’ punk mentality and the more untoward steel of NYC’s Big Ups. They could go either way, Sievehead: Diving headfirst into cult stardom or streamlining towards huge festival stages. Choice is theirs.
