New music guide The Neu Bulletin (1st May 2015)

DIY’s new music tips, featuring Black Honey and Miamigo.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Black Honey, The Magic Gang, Spring King, Bloody Knees

DIY Stage, Live at Leeds - Brudenell Social Club (Saturday 2nd May)

This time last year, a bunch of brilliant new bands (and some familiar faces) crammed into the Brudenell Social Club for a bonkers Live at Leeds showcase. In 2015, the line-up’s even more exciting. Brighton’s Black Honey are set to make their debut at the fest. We’ve also got fellow seasiders The Magic Gang. And if that wasn’t enough in the ferocity stakes, Spring King and Bloody Knees (two of the country’s most excitable live bands) are checking in, too.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Miamigo - Hard to Love

Brighton duo Miamigo’sOpinions’ debut is still spreading, one year on. A lesson in deft pop, it’s the kind of song that spans seasons (years, even) and still manages to make an impact. That’s quite the test for a follow-up. But the looks of things, the pair have been holed up in a studio, adding further tricks to their synth-pop sleeve. ‘Hard to Love’ is a breakneck force chart-botherer in waiting. Bands could spend decades figuring out how to write the biggest hooks and they might not get close to this. A must-see name at this year’s Great Escape Festival.
