THE GIG
Blaue Blume - London, Birthdays
Forget your Nine Inch Nails Scala showcases, this is the real hot ticket in London. The debut UK show from the Wild Beasts-channelling, falsetto-led Danish outfit Blaue Blume. Two tracks unveiled to date, there’ll be a fair bit of intrigue surrounding their very first UK date - prepare to get blown away.
THE SONG
TTFN - Song of the Neon
Those late nights. Those car rides. Everything about quickfire escape rinses ‘Song of the Neon’, by ‘teenage trio born and raised in Honolulu Hawaii’ TTFN aka The Tigers From Niger. You couldn’t make it up. There’s a fascinating backstory waiting to be told here. But for the mean time, concern yourself with the style-heavy dose of ‘Song of the Neon’. Bongo samples, heavenly verses, light synthetics. Like jj birthed on the US coastline, few bands are creating anything that sounds remotely like this.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
The Nights - Believe
After Hours E.P. by The Nights
The pitch-shift onslaught of ‘Believe’ might have been exhausted already by countless others, but there’s something new brought to the fore by Sydney trio The Nights. Maybe it’s the band mentality, energy coming from all sides courtesy of Rob Campbell, Thomas Marland and Walter Flamenco. It could be the Aussie sunshine drowning previously overdone ideas in Pacific glow. It could be a combination of the two. Regardless, The Nights are heady escape for anyone somehow lacking in such.
