Neu The Neu Bulletin (20th November 2014)
DIY’s new music delivery, featuring Slaves, American Wrestlers and Nao.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
Slaves - Dalston Victoria
Sold out from yonks ago, Slaves are keeping things intimate ahead of a more-than-promising 2015. The Kent duo have made a name for themselves on forthright, frenzied shows - expect tonight to be up there with the finest, right off the back of a run of shows with Jamie T.
THE BIG NEU THING:
American Wrestlers - I Can Do No Wrong
Glasgow-raised, Missouri-residing newcomer American Wrestlers is the latest signing to Fat Possum, out in the States. His recordings dip in and out of consciousness. Parts sound like they could be travelling alongside him on an American road trip. Others feel so loaded with chunky lo-fi production, it’s like he’s suddenly gone off-road. In any situation, he applies a woozy simplicity to songwriting, coming off like an exciting new hybrid of Christopher Owens and Kurt Vile.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Nao - Adore You
Nao’s latest (taken from the ‘So Good’ EP), sees the twisted, contorting vocals she specialises in being backed by production duo abhi//dijon. Couple this with high-profile A.K. Paul and William Arcane collaborations, and the Londoner’s clearly kicking things off the right way. ‘Adore You’ is pure, pristine pop, dressed in funk twists without losing sight of its original purpose.
She’s currently on tour with Little Dragon, before headlining London’s Corsica Studios, 11th December.
