THE GIG
Oliver Wilde - London, Strongroom Bar

Critical acclaim’s coming left, right and centre for Bristolian Oliver Wilde. His 9/10 rated ‘A Brief Introduction to Unnatural Lightyears’ begs a more formal hello in East London’s Strongroom Bar. It’s about 100 yards away from the DIY office, so obviously we’ll be going. What about you?

THE SONG
Adolescent - Shy
Coast to Coast: A Believe In Sound Compilation by Believe In Sound

Taken from a compilation curated by the guys at Believe In Sound blog, there was little doubting that expansive electronica was going to be the order of the day. Still, few things come more wondrous than the comp’s opener. Adolescent, a Brighton producer who spins perfectionists ideas through escapist arrangements, hits the jackpot with ‘Shy’. It’s a track that stays true to its title, modestly fixating itself on light percussive parts and otherworldly synthetics, all pieced together with nigh-on euphoric vocal samples. Divine.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Hanna – Raindance/North Star

Dan Lissvik affiliate, Hanna Göranson, is back with a brace of bright-as-a-button pop tracks, ‘Raindance’ and ‘North Star’, in tow. The former CAT5 member’s first new material since 2012’s Lissvik-produced, Lioness EP, indicates a sharpening of the tongue with liberal use of tropical samples and sweltering bongos complimenting her feisty vocals on ‘Raindance’. ‘North Star’ on the other hand, offers more of a familiar Scandinavian touch; Hanna’s swooning, obsessive repetitions carried along on a current of thick, frothy bass pops and resonant handclaps. Swedish pop just won’t stop giving, will it? [Dan Carson]
