New music guide The Neu Bulletin (25th November 2014)

DIY’s daily new music guide, featuring Public Access TV, Annika Zee and Leon Bridges.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Public Access TV - London, Sebright Arms

Following support slots on the Circa Waves tour, Public Access TV are going from academies to the sweaty confines they’ve built their trade on. Scuzzy, sweat-dripping NYC rock ‘n roll is their game, with a big 2015 around the corner.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Annika Zee - Asleep in the Heat

Slicked back and sun-kissed, with its head resting in the backseat, the debut single from Toronto newcomer Annika Zee is a daydreamer. “Your kisses are my problems,” she declares, with a rinsed out synth backdrop jostling for space with lazy-day guitar patterns that could easily lurch on for an eternity. Road tripping, with its head in the clouds, it’s a gorgeous introduction that jumps straight into the conscience, eventually reaching the kind of “woah-oah” singalong reserved for Best Coast’s next love letter to California.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Leon Bridges - Coming Home

Produced by White Denim, the debut ‘Coming Home’ single is a heart-shattering first glimpse of Leon Bridges, a songwriter destined to soundtrack breaking hearts for years to come. Throwback to the point of directly navigating to decades previous, his voice is the stuff of the legend, the kind of soaring source of rejoice that only comes round once in a blue moon. An instant classic, it’s no wonder this has picked up nearly half a million plays in just under a month.
