New music guide The Neu Bulletin (26th May 2015)
DIY’s new music guide, featuring Silicon and Apache Sun.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG:
Silicon
London, Power Lunches
Kody Nielson - aka Ruban Nielson from Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s brother - is diving headfirst into a solo run with his Silicon project. A debut album is due out later this year on Domino imprint Weird World, and it’s being led with an intimate solo show at the capital’s Power Lunches venue. Murky but distinct alt-pop is his game, as evidenced by ‘God Emoji’ - stream above.
THE BIG NEU THING:
Apache Sun - Silhouettes
Kris Mitchell and Pete Bruce shadow as Glasgow psych duo Apache Sun. Their latest ‘Sihouettes’ track paints patterns in the clouds before shooting off somewhere outside of planet earth. Defined by a Temples-like awareness that the hook comes first, they deliver ‘60s-nodding psychedelic music with a pop knowhow. It’s a big step forward from the more restrained ‘Club Noir’, released back in 2014.
