News The Neu Bulletin (28th January 2013)

Your mandatory dose of new music recommendations, chosen by Neu.

Every day of the week, Neu gives you a choice show and a selection of new music tips, all in the name of exposing you to something new and exciting.

If there’s a gig that’s worth heading to, we’ll tell you all about it, and if there’s a song you need in your life, we’ll make sure it doesn’t fly under the radar. It’s the Neu Bulletin.

THE GIG
Only Real - The Shacklewell Arms, London
West London’s Only Real launches his ‘Backseat Kissers’ single tonight, and anyone who wants to join Niall Galvin in wearing fancy caps and being all celebratory can do so, FOR FREE. ASL Records release ‘Backseat Kissers’.

THE SONG
Mt Royal - Missing Reward

Upon its first, dazzling burst, this debut Mt Royal track soon develops into one of 2013’s most dynamic, illuminating pop tracks to date. This project calls Baltimore home, and although information is scarce on Mt Royal - a guy called Ed Harris is at the helm, and the group plan to record an EP with engineer Steve Wright - ‘Missing Reward’ will surely suffice for the time being. The thick bass and crashing thump of a St. Vincent record blends with show-stopping vocals (belonging to Katrina Ford, of Celebration), like those of a more deranged Victoria Legrand from Beach House. All of our favourite artists collide worlds. And the result is something completely breathtaking.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Wilsen - Anahita

An astonishing omission from the ‘best of 2012’ lists, NY band Wilsen’s self-released ‘Sirens’ went under the radars of many, including ourselves. This subsequent release of the ‘Anahita’ single was enough to capture our attention. Its lull worthy, folky quiet twists and turns, soon developing into something beautifully progressive. If it doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, you’re too pumped on coffee and cynicism.

Anahita’ is released physically/digitally on 18th February. It’s taken from 2012’s ‘Sirens’ LP, self-released.
